The Island of Hope is a building that will serve recovering addicts in a way that no other organization has attempted. We will bring together a spiritual aspect with some traditional methods to help recovering addicts and their families live clean and productive lives. The space will provide a meditation room, resource center, a garden area and a meeting room. Recovering addicts will use these spaces for various programs to help them become whole in mind, body, and spirit.
The opening of the Island of Hope last September was the culmination of many years of planning, fundraising and development activity by the Hezekiah Movement.
Staffed by volunteers, the Island of Hope is currently open several hours each day in the afternoons and early evening; approximately four days a week. We are working to build our capacity to achieve our ultimate objective - that the island of Hope will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; offering personal, one-on-one spiritual support as well as traditional 12 step meetings; referrals for services related to health care; housing and job readiness; and a variety of onsite wellness programs.
To achieve these goals during the coming year we need to provide training to 15-20 volunteers and raise funds to cover building expenses and equipment. Since its opening, the Island of Hope has welcomed 60 visitors a week and that number is steadily building. So please feel free to join us.
